Rescue organisations in Scotland

As part of our charity's wish to provide useful resources to people and dogs residing in Scotland, this page contains a list of Scottish Rescue organisations who may be able to help with a variety of problems and issues.
We have arranged them by alphabetical region.

The emphasis is on organisations who specialise in dogs and who should be able to help with assistance, advice or information on welfare and behavioural issues.
All will be able to help or advise if you need to rehome your dog or are looking at adopting a dog.

Some are more general animal rescue groups, some are local authority stray dog shelters.
Please be aware that stray dog shelters normally only accept dogs via their licensing authority dog warden service and may not be able to take dogs from the public, however most do re-home dogs.

Specialist Breed Rescue groups in Scotland

We are currently only listing Scottish or Cross Border registered charities as only these organisations will meet the regulatory standards and financial scrutiny required of charitable organisations registered in Scotland.

Anyone can describe themselves as 'non profit' or 'not for profit', but these terms are meaningless and have no legal definition in the UK. Sometimes these words hide scams.

Unless an organisation is structured as a legally registered non-profit organisation, with a governing document that prohibits profit distribution to people who own or work for it and additionally requires all assets and income to be dedicated towards charitable objects, or - is a registered charity - it is and remains private enterprise and a business venture and its assets and income belong entirely to those who own it.
